Boardman, Ohio
- "Hey! I just wanted to drop a note about my Denny's, #1167 in Boardman, Ohio. i have been eating there for about 5 years, and working there for one. i just wanted to tell you about everyone's favorite waitress, Dot. Being served by Dorothy is truly an experience as she never seems to change. Everything, from the perfect symmetry of her cotton candy afro hair, to the wrinkles in her knee length skirt. She is an awesome server and a great wisecracker. My friends are all impressed with me cuz i get to work with her. everyone knows Dottie. If you are lucky enough to pass thru Boardman (youngstown), stop in. if you can't get served by me, ask for Dot :)" - written prior to September, 1999

- "well, I can't say that I was ever a fan of Denny's. My experience was that they were always unclean, unorganized, and SLOW...... (at 1 a.m. myself and about 5 other friends went to a Denny's when we were in Fl and it took them 45 minutes to serve us, and we were the only customers in there!) Well, where I live in Brunswick Ohio they have put in a new Denny's at I-71 and Rt. 303 that has changed my mind! Their food is great! Altho they seemed to be much quicker at serving your meal to you when they first opened than they are now, but the food is AWESOME!!!!! And of course the prices are right too! If you ever get a chance to stop in there, I highly suggest it. Let me know if you ever make it there." - written prior to September, 1999

- "About six or eight months ago, we went to Denny's for lunch (it's wierd, did you know that they exist during daylight hours?). Rockwell (one o' the friends) and I started discussing one of the servers. It seems that Roc had a theory that this particular server (I can't remember the name) was a transvestite. I was of the opinion that she was just a rather butch woman (I know, when I was in the military, I saw a lot!). Well, Roc just up and decided to ask our server what was up about this other server. Roc said, "Hey, is so-and-so a transvestite?" Ther server-person blinked and halted the flow of coffee and responded, "Well, she was in the service." "She was in the SERVICE?!?!" What the hell kind of answer was that! Maybe you had to be there....
BTW, there's a guy who is at that particular Denny's EVERY night. He's a rather large guy with a goatee, glasses and logish curly hari. We've dubbed him Denny. Check him out!" - written prior to September, 1999

- "I was perusing your web page and thought that you might want to nkow of the untimely passing of a Denny's location. The store in Centerville on Far Hills Avenue has fallen prey to one of the many Chinese Buffets that have popped up in and around Dayton." - written prior to September, 1999

- "I took my 2 & 4 year old girls to Denny's at W. 150th in Cleveland this a.m. as a special treat. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get breakfast, an unacceptable timeframe for 2 hungry children to be required to be on their best behavior. Other patrons in the restaurant even noticed our plight and complained on our behalf. Several cheap excuses were provided including the kitchen computer printer broke and our order was lost. I was still charged full price and received a poorly cooked meal -- bacon half raw and inedible. Needlessly to say, I will never visit another Denny's." - written prior to September, 1999

Columbus, Ohio
- "Great Denny's web site.. I was a server for 2 summers and christmas vacations, at #1137 in Columbus Ohio (I-270 and Main St. Reynoldsburg). We never had a WAY employee as far as I can remember, but one of our 'counter creeps' (who is STILL a Denny's regular to this day - I saw him a couple of weeks ago there, and I worked there in '92), and also another regular, a nice gay man who came by every Saturday, looked very much like Weird Al. Gay men liked our Denny's - I don't know why. We had one gay manager and a presumably gay waiter (he never came out to me, but he did smoke Virginia Slims and has been seen wearing a tutu at gay bars). Very nice, but nervous men.
I'm surprised to see you haven't visited my Denny's yet - it seems like you've visited the other Denny's in Ohio, and most in the Columbus area. You're only from Toledo, man... what's wrong with my Denny's?
By the way, I have a very old Denny's menu with an insert from the FIRST EVER grand slam baseball card promotion. Well, maybe not the first ever, but it was the first time I'd heard of it. I remember having to explain it to all our customers, that they could only get the baseball card if they ordered these special items... and it made a few of them upset, because they didn't particularly want the hamdinger or the Bases Loaded Slam. Couldn't they get the card with the Super Bird? That was a rough summer. Was that the first time they did the baseball card promotion? If so, I may be holding a piece of history in my basement.
One more anecdote... I know this is dragging on, but this is why I really wrote. When I first came to college in the fall of 92, I met a nice boy on campus and decided I'd like to pick up on him. We got to talking at a fraternity party one night, and we both found out that we worked at Denny's... he in Troy, Michigan, I in Columbus. So he gazed deep into my eyes and asked me if I'd like to go to Denny's. We ditched the fraternity party right then and went to Wickliffe, OH, just 20 minutes from campus, and ate at Denny's there. I think I ordered a veggie-cheese melt with extra guacamole, and he ordered nachos. That Christmas, he drove to Columbus and surprised me at work one evening (isn't that sweet?). We dated for 3 1/2 years, celebrating small moments at Denny's whenever we could. I wish I could say we had a happy ending, but we broke up this past August. Maybe we had nothing in common anymore once we quit our Denny's jobs. Maybe it was wrong to base a relationship on Denny's in the first place. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
I wish you good luck in your quest... I've thought about stopping at all the Denny's every time I travel... but most of the time I think it would just be a waste of time. If I had a fun bus and a crew of groupies to go with me, I'd compete with you in your Denny's travels. :) I guess all I can do is wish you good luck. Go to my old Denny's.. see if our counter creep is still there. I forget his name, but he has bushy brown hair and a beard (not quite weird-al enough to be weird-al)..., and he'll probably be reading some intellectual book or playing backgammon. He also talks really slowly, and he loves talking about electronics. He talks a lot. More than me." - written prior to September, 1999

- "i stopped at the denny's on the east side of columbus (hamilton rd) and was never in my life treated as bad as i was there. i have a physical handicap and when i walk into the place one of the waitress' started making fun of me in front of my wife and all the other guest there. the tramp even went to the back and got her friends to come out and laugh at me and they didn't even care if i saw them doing it or not. i will surely tell all my friends what kind of people work for your dumpy dirty rest. and tell them that they should boycot denny's everytime they go out to eat. your rest. really sucks and so does the people who work there. denny's is worthless in my book...." - written prior to September, 1999

- March 14, 2001 - "I don't know why I write this all - but the fantastic service of Denny's will be famous even in Europe . As European Citizen I can say this Mr.J.B. knows how to make business . So he swept our credit card twice, said it is declined and we paid in cash . Researches with our bank lead to the conclusion, that this manager of Denny's made it possible to take out each time he swept the card an amount of about 14 US-$ . Including with the cash we paid over 42 US-$ for a simple meal consisting of eggs, potatoes and a Reuben Sandwich > W O W !!! ( Either we are such stupid that we cannot handle the american business system or Mr.J.B. cannot handle computers or, even we European know the word for this kinda business ...... ) (Why was your bus called BUES -ich habe leider den deutschen Umlaut fuer ue nicht auf meiner amerikanischen Tastatur .......)?"

- "The wife and I, an elderly couple went to Denny's on the morning of July 24th, at 2:00 A.M. After we were seated, we watched the waitress take the orders of younger people that came in after us, group after group. We didn't get waited on until my wife complained. The food there is good. And the service used to be good too. It's a shame when older people get treated like 2nd class people. And we always left a tip, until now." - written prior to September, 1999

- September 1, 2002 - "Nice site. Howzabout a return trip to store 0611 in Dayton Ohio. The one out by the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. One of our managers, Zeke, looks like a bit like Saint Al of Yankovic except for the fact that he's African American. I could probably get our GM to hook you up with some swag like a "Juice, Java, Coke, and Cool" T-Shirt. Thanks for the free promotion for the entire chain from all of us here at store 0611 here in Dayton Ohio."

Delaware, Ohio
- "If anyone has a single qualm about Denny's restaurants, then they have never enjoyed the Delaware, OH Denny's. Off of Rt. 23, all types gather at the Denny's, including truckers, college students, highschools students, and after the bars let out on Saturday nights, drunks. (which is a special treat.) The Denny's in Delaware does everything just right, with the best servers around, warm syrup, and atmosphere. I am now away from Denny's, and from Delaware for that matter, because I am in college. But! I try to make my way there and visit at least once a month, and relive those highschool days. In Delaware, Denny's is the place to go when you skip school, to get away from home, or study for an exam. It is also the best place to talk. For some reason, no other place can bring up an interesting conversation like Denny's. If I had it my way, I would move back home, just for the reason that the Delaware Denny's has to be one of the coolest places in the world." - written prior to September, 1999

Findlay, Ohio
- December 26, 1999 - "I have lived in Findlay, OH for 22 years, give or take a few days. My boyfriend, Jon, and I always enjoyed driving to North Baltimore's Denny's to order breakfast and cheese sticks. Recently, a Denny's was built in Findlay on Northridge Road, right off of I75. It was such a spectacular event to see it built. Basically, the building came in sections that were already assembled, giving new meaning to some assembly required. Being a classic Denny's, the waitstaff sang numbers every hour. (YMCA and the like). It's a quaint restaraunt that i advise one to visit, but only if you don't want to read in quiet atmosphere. Also, their cheese sticks looked a bit green, but their eggs were fantastic!"

- December 27, 2004 - "Christmas Day. A day after the big storm put Ohio in a deep-freeze. We were travelling south on I-75, down from Detroit to Columbus. There were'nt too many places open, being Christmas Day and all. It was about 12:45 when we decided to see if Denny's was open on this exit cause we saw that Waffle House actually stuck a little sign in a snow bank up on the highway.
We pulled in and the parking lot was sort of filled...when we got inside, there was a waiting line for tables! Should have been no surprise, being Christmas day and not so many places open and all. There were travelling groups, older folks, different odd couples, some truckers and locals all enjoying the festive atmosphere and talkin about the storm and how bad the roads were. We let Judy know we would be OK at the counter and went on over.
When I first walked in, the first thing I noticed was a very good looking blond woman sitting in a booth by the window, two down north from the entrance, was lookin at me. The moment I realized she was looking at me I got what you would call that special sparkly feeling that you hardly get. In fact, after 50 you can almost guarantee you're not ever gonna get that feeling...but.., I did. It wasn't that it was flirtatious or rude or anything it was just...that sparkly feeling! We ended up sitting right near her and I could only sort of get a glimpse of her and saw she was really different, very nice with a little style and grace that went with her elegant good looks. She seemed like she smiled at me as carefully as possible cause she was with a man...and I was with my wife. We weren't doing anything bad now...just mutual admiration sort-of, maybe just wishful thinkin...but there was that sparkly thing...and that was for real!
Denny's was so backed up with orders and everyone was waitin on fries, shakes, soups, toast..we were sure glad when our order finally came up. The waitresses were moving constantly so they kinda forgot where they were sometimes but everything came out pretty good. We're vegetarians so we had them make special stuff for us. It was darn good!
Finally, the lady in black (she went to the restroom and I could see she was very attractive!) and her husband? were finished eating and the man started smoking and she waved the smoke away...he seemed like he was a patient and then I noticed he had two different shoes on. She was very attentive to him. more like a caretaker type of attention and I could only wonder, perhaps he had a stroke or other mild brain injury cause he looked a little mean. Not to say thats why I thought he was injured, its just that it was my impression from where I was. She left him at the booth and went to pay the check at the register and it seemed that she had a lot in her purse, like a businesswoman, maybe real estate agent..maybe.
She ended up using cash after looking thru her cards, came back to the booth and announced "she was going to get the car", which added to my impression that he needed to stay put while she brought the car around. He just stayed put and chained smoked. When she came back in to get him, she brought several wrapped gifts...and gave them to Judy and said "thanks for takin care of us, when we come here all the time" , which seemed incredibly nice and I could'nt help notice that Judy seemed maybe a little surprised, just a guess. I then had to slyly watch as she drove him away in a grey ford or lincoln.
Anyways the whole time I'm thinkin (not really) just sparklin instead of thinkin. I mean it is even for my own good that I am writing this down but I dont want to cheapen that feelin cause its so rare at any age when its for real. We love our family. We love our friends. But that sparkly feelin is about one thing. So here I am thinkin about Denny's and its two days later and I'm wonderin, just maybe wonderin...if I could find a way to find a way to ...find..a...way....."

Fremont, Ohio
- December 14, 2001 - "Just thought I;d pass along the info on little Fremont Ohio's Dennys. An overall decent Dennys, I've been to several of the Dennys in Toledo, and they all seem to stack up close to the same. Overall, I think the one in Fremont tends to be a little cleaner than the Toledo ones, but then this one's only been here a handfull of years, unlike the long term ones in Toledo, I'm sure Fremont's will fall into line at some point!
My personal fav dishes are and probably allways will be either the Lumber Jack Slam, or Breakfast Dagwood, and yes, I can complete both meals with a couple of cokes along with it! (Never did like Coffee much)"

- October 15, 2003 - "I will admit, when Denny's came to town, I had my doubts about it. I could not have been more wrong. We have always had great service and good food, no matter what time we have been in there. The place is always clean, and they always have toys for the kids to play with. I love the kid friendly meals and I personally love the french toast slam. That is so good! Keep up the good work Denny's in Fremont!!"

Next time your in Ohio dont hesitate to stop on in. It would be a pleasure to meet you. Carrie W. Denny's"

Huron, Ohio
- " To whom it may concern:
I have been eating at Denny's for the last four or five years and I will never eat at the Denny's in Huron, Ohio. The food and servise was really good at first but, as time went on and the more I ate there the worst things got. The food was comeing wrong, cold, small portions, and/or the waitress was haveing a REALLY bad day.
If you take tonight for example, two parties of five came in after us (a party of two) and was served before we were. Two other parties that arrived the same time, were served, ate, and left, before we were served. The waitresses there are becomeing more and more ignorent by the day, and there excuses are someting that a four year old would use if they did something wrong.
Needless to say, I will never eat there agian, and it will be a long time before I trust any other Denny's. I am, and will, tell all of my friends to boycott that particular Denny's, and hope that they will stand behind me and not eat there ever!" - written prior to September, 1999

Lorain, Ohio
- June 11, 2000 - "Had a terrible experience at Dennys on Rt-58 Lorain/Amherst, Ohio. This HAS to be THEEEEE dirtiest Denney's we have ever been in. The table had a sour smell comming up from it. When we asked the waitress to please wash it she produced a filthy dish rag and ran it over the table. Guess were the sour smell was comming FROM. The RAG. The ladies room had a dirty diper laying on the sink. The waste paper can was full. The toilet looked as if no one had EVER sat on the seat. They just squat and let fly. Of cource it too is never cleaned. We have been in cleaner out-houses in State Parks. The flies on the window were piling up on each other trying to get OUT. ven the flies didn't want to stay. When we arrived we ordered coffee. The cup still had lipstick from a privious user. The dishwasher had not removed the stain. We didn't even bother to order the food. The pies in the case were at least 2 days old. The glass pannels over the booths were dirty with food from weeks of buildup. I gave the girl at the checkout 2.00 for the coffee and she said that it was not enough. I said I wouldn't pay anymore and if she didn't like it to call the police. She just sneared at me. I told her that if she did call the police I would wait and then make a formal complaint with the local Health Dept."

Mansfield, Ohio
- "I live in Mansfield OH, a group of us...6-8 liked to get together and have a late night meal at Denny's. All of us worked at one of the 24 Hour a Day Superstores. So we would arrive in groups of 2 or 3 depending on the night. Two of us were waiting for the others and had ordered our drinks and sandwiches. It was taking a little longer than usual..say 30 minutes or so, when our waitress told us that she could no longer allow us to have our table, they were busy and needed the space. This Dennny's is the Hot Spot for those coming out of the local bars, the joke is that the cops cruise the parking lot and follow patrons and give them DUI's. We said that we were waiting on friends, she said"You can wait all you want, I just won't wait on them or you." And she did not. Needless to say I wrote corporate, no response, I tried to speak to the Manager...Lights are on but no one is at home. Our answer was to find a new place, which we have and they appreciate the fact that we are quiet, not drunk and come in on a regular basis....4 to 5 nights a week. I love to go into Denny's late at night, the people are weird(guess that's why I'm there) the waitresses are worn out and then the drunks are funny. It's truly the Grand Slam!" - written prior to September, 1999

Mayfield Heights, Ohio
- June 22, 2003 - "Well Hey and Hello, I worked at Denny's in Mayfield Heights, Ohio back in 1996-98, now that I live somewhere else, I am starting my first day at one in Canton, Ohio tomorrow!!!! They treated me great as a worker ( I worked midnite shift, also ) I'm gonna miss that shift here, though. Had alot of fun with the drunks!!! Dated a cop that pulled security on weekend nites!!! He was like 12 years younger than me, it was really cool!!! Wow! I had a real drunk broad cuss me out one nite cause I didn't get her drink order quick enough for her...after saying a few "ahem" nice words to her, turned around and continued with the table I was at, and when I looked back she was passed out under the table! It was hilarious!!! Even her friends ignored her. Well, I checked for a pulse and my friend the cop called an ambulance, she got nasty with them to, kicked the paramedic right where it hurts the worse......lalala. Anyway!! Stop by Canton, Ohio on Tusc street and I will foot the bill for you.....hope to see you soon...."

- "Man, I don't know what that one kid is talking about, how no one ever got free stuff from the Medina Denny's. A few years ago (when I would go there every night) I used to get free stuff all the time. Of course, sometimes the free stuff I got was at like, 2am in the closed off area, from one of the waitresses. oh well. I guess you have to be "IN" with the Denny's people to get free stuff. Anyhow, I will agree that the service since then is pretty awful. no free stuff since that waitress left. *sigh* the good ol' days." - written prior to September, 1999

We were there for the car show and even the neon was partly out. Seeing as how the diner is not more than a few years old, its a shame it is in such disrepair and has such lousy service."

Mentor, Ohio
- "Just thought I'd send you a review of the Denny's in Mentor, OH. It's the only one I've been to ever, actually, since it's like right next to the movie theater I always go to, but it seems to be pretty nice to me. We're always seated fast, and the service is generally OK (ask for Klaus or Hans or whatever his name is). I'm especially surprised their service is so good since we usually steal a menu or something when we go there. (Did I say steal? I meant borrow. Yeah, borrow.)" - written prior to September, 1999

Now me and about 2 of the other denny's rats care about the shape of the place and help bus tables ,vacuum, and getting drinks you know the usal. None of us work there, but we feel the obligation to keep it clean when we can. I mean we come and sit there for hours upoun hours ,i think that we owe them something. the point of this mail is to tell you to come to the mentor denny's it is the best. we have actaully shop around for a dennys in the nabhoring cities and could'nt find one with the same charm as ours. North Baltimore, Ohio
- "I had visited the Dennys in North Baltimore, Ohio recently. I must say, I do not know if this was a restaurant or a Petro truck stop. First of all, My wife and I were among the 12 patrons that morning, the Server, Joyce, had fowl body odor, Later, I was informed this woman was the General Manager. The most disturbing fact is, when I looked through the bck windows of the store, I saw a blonde lady crawling out of the back of the Semi parked , her hair was standing on end, and her pantyhose in her right hand. Well, this blonde cames into the back of the store, and about 10 minutes later, she was in the dining room!!!! I asked my server who she was, my server replied, Cathy Ohms, the District Manager, but she tricks with those drivers ALOT!!!" - written prior to September, 1999

North Olmstead, Ohio
- "I worked at the Denny's in North Olmsted, OH for an eventful month and a half or so. But oh, the stories I could tell... Like the two dead flies floating in the cream of broccoli soup in the walk-in fridge...And how said soup was later served to unwitting customers. And those scrambled eggs-- man, please get your eggs done in such a manner so that you can actually see a yolk or something. Those scrambled ones are this sulphorous reconstituted-egg *powder* that they ladle out of a bucket and onto the grill. Eech. Just a note to protect you cause I'm deeply concerned ;) for yer health. On a happier note, those walk-in fridges are even better than Rocky as a place to mess around...hee hee. My girlfriend at the time and I both got jobs there the summer after our senior year of high school. Sometimes we just got goofy or just really bored with the usual dishroom-hostessing-bussing-dealing with nasty frat boys-scene in the smoking section...Well, you've gotta make your own fun, right? Heh. Although we scared the random employee who happened to walk in on us. And got quite a few funny glances from the entire crew afterwards. Come to think of it, I still get those looks whenever I go back there to eat...
I've still got my official Denny's hostess apron...sorta forgot to give it back that fateful Sunday morning when the apres-church-rush just got to be too much and I fled out the front door. Okay, so I was actually fired cause my boss was a jerk and didn't want to give me a day off. But it *was* on a Sunday. And the front door was involved.
Just wanted to share..." - written prior to September, 1999

Reynoldsburg, Ohio
- "Oh, let the Denny's memories flow...
I spent pretty much every night of the summer of 1993 at this Denny's with either my girlfriend at the time or the Pizza Hut crowd I worked with. (The night life in Reynoldsburg is pretty limited.)
I'm not sure what their policy is now, but back then there was a certain manager who was heavy into the parallel economy concept, so we'd pop a few large Supremes into the oven on our way out and take them to Denny's and trade them for rounds of "Grand Slams" and "Moon Over My Hammy"'s. We ate like kings, largely at the expense of both the Denny's Corp and Pizza Hut. Also, if our delivery drivers needed a quick pick-me-up, the relationship was friendly enough that we knew we could score some free carry-out coffee any time we wanted.
My girlfriend and I used it as the ultimate destination or rendezvous point after whatever trouble we were out getting into at the time. I know of several drug deals that went down in those green booths, with stuff being slid under the table in crowded booths.
We had a favorite waitress. Her name was Tracy. And a favorite booth. (Smoking section, on the left, middle booth). I haven't been there lately, but that booth was stained throughout the summer because my girlfriend once dyed her hair purple just before we went out and she ended up leaving purple dye anywhere her head came into contact for any extended period of time.
There is an additional dining room that is usually reserved for banquet functions in the back. The door was usually closed and locked but, one hectic night, we noticed it slightly ajar. It had been the subject of many "Mysteries of Denny's" conversations, so we slid back there to check it out. It was just another grouping of tables similar to the main dining room, but without the booths and it was completely unlit, except for the parking lot lights leaking in through the blinds. The spirit of adventure hit us and he had a quickie right then and there just to be able to say that we had done it.
Great times back in the wild summer of 93..." - written prior to September, 1999

- November 9, 1999 - "I began reading your reviews about the Ohio Denny's especially the Dayton and Toledo area restrants and I was shocked at your findings, there seemed to be a few descrepencies in our opinions. Here is an update. The review of the Monroe street Dennys in Toledo and all of the Downtown Dayton resturants are accurate to this day, however there have quite a few changes since your last visits in '96. The most tragic being the shut down of the Denny's in my home town, Centerville. The other review is accurate it has become a "Buffett King" Chineese resturant. And for Adam Dickson: the large character with a gotee and long curly hair who you have so lovingly named "Denny" is actually a good friend of mine, his real name is Bill and now resides in St. Louis. I have had nothing but fond memories of my home town Denny's and will greatly miss the only Denny's I have found to date which had beer on tap. But as any true Denny's regular would we cried a little, learned a lot and remembered the words that Wally Pleasant said to the counter-culture youth in the streets of SanFransisco. "Change comes from within." We have found a new home in the welcome arms of the Denny's in Miamisburg (yes, the one who refused to give you anything for free and charged you sixty-five cents for syrup). With the end of the Centerville Denny's Legacy many of the workers have now transfered to the Miamisburg location giving it a great new atmosphere. They are also more liberal about the "free stuff" now. I don't think I have been charged for coffee more than half a dozen times which is excelent considering that I stopped in EVERY night this past summer. And I also have quite a bit of memoriabelia including mugs, carafs and buttons which the servers kindly gave us or turned their heads while they disapeared. But to top it all off they have not only one but two "WAY's" THe cook, charlie, and a female way the manager who looks like Weird Al in the "fat" video. The other diagreement I have with you is your review of the Toledo Denny's on Secor and the Rossford Denny's on Buck Rd. I have seen the Buck Rd resturant quite busy and I would agree that there is no reason to be rude, however I have never encountered a rude server or hostess at the location and am now a regular there since becoming a student at Bowling Green State University. It is the Secor Denny's that I have problems with, of all my Dennys trips it is by far the worst experience that I have ever had at a Denny's. We waited at least 15 minutes at to be seated in a practally empty resturant, the drinks were not ordered for quite some time after the seating and we were left to find our own ash tray. That was just the beginning. After ordering our usuals, which consist of combinations of the Grilled Cheese Platter (3 variations) a southern slam (all bacon) and a two egg breakfast (all sausage) we found that there were no biscuts left for the Slam. The food was finally brought to us being less than hot, all of the grilled cheese sandwiches were smaller portions than usual and burnt. Ther only redeming quality was that the cook tried to compensate for the extreamly small sandwiches by covering them with a heaping pile of fries ( except for JR's who orders a side of cheese covered hashbrowns instead) but the kicker was the sausage from the two egg breakfast. Two links were charred on the outside and luke warm in the middle while the others were a normal color on the outside but still quite cold in the middle, I would guess frozen. We may have gone on a bad night but we have heard bad things about it from others who had similar encounters on different shifts. All in all I think the webpage is beautiful thing and hope to see more efforts towards your goal. If you ever are in the Ohio area and need a few more passengers in Das Bus for the Denny's experience I would love to talk about other Denny's incidents (good and bad) in more detail. I have to go to UT now, then to Denny's (how ironic)."

- December 24, 2003 - "I was a fry cook on the night shift at the Denny's on Secor road in 1974 for about six months. It was practically the only place in town that was open when the bars closed on the weekend and we'd have customers standing outside for half an hour to get inside. We'd sell a couple of thousand of dollars worth of eggs in 8 hours(in 1974 dollars). The cooks were mostly kids like myself, with their long hair tucked up under those silly tubular hats, with the token Korean, and straight medical student. It was a good paying job as they paid a couple bucks more than comparable places like Fritsch's and the waitresses could also make good tips on the weekend graveyard shift.
It was a very mixed night life crowd that was mostly toasted on booze and drugs. We'd get the partying college kids, the Syrian mafia truck drivers in their black leather jackets, the narks and drug dealers eyeing each other nervously, and the black Macs with their tired whores in their hot pants and heart shaped sun glasses trailing in finally at 4:30 am. The waitresses hated waiting on the pimps as they were uniformly rude and never tipped.
I believe it was one of the first restaurants in the country to use Microwaves that were at that time new technology. We discovered that if you cut the tip off of a boiled egg and nuked it then it swelled to something the size and consistency of a large lima bean. Edison would have been proud of us.
The one problem working there was the cheap toasters they gave us. Every order of eggs had to be served with toast and we'd have four pans of eggs cooking simultaneously during peak hours. After pushing out a hundred pieces of toast these things would just burn out. One Saturday night we were down to one toaster and the waitresses were hysterically demanding toast for their drunken customers. So my buddy P. said to me, "Go see where the manager is now"... When I reported back that the manager was in his office, he wrapped a towel around a metal knife and stuck it into the lone plugged in toaster. It proceeded to short out with a large puff of smoke and a minor mushroom cloud type explosion. P. remarked with some satisfaction, "I guess the last toaster is toast. So we just cook eggs tonight"...
I'm glad that you're making a serious study of the Denny's contribution to the American cultural and culinary scene. Such a commendable effort is long overdue in my opinion and your web site should be eligible for Federal grants."

Wadsworth, Ohio
- "Greetings from Wadsworth, Ohio, the city that contains a refabricated Denny's. Just thought that you would like some help on this project. The Denny's in Wadsworth is located at Exit 9 on Interstate 76E before you head into Akron. If you're travelling south on Interstate 71 from Cleveland, hop onto 76E and you won't miss it. You'll especially love the patrons and bearded waitresses that inhabit the confines of this establishment. Just tell them that The Fifth Wheel sent you. If you want to know who The Fifth Wheel is, check out this address:" - written prior to September, 1999

Westerville, Ohio
- May 21, 2000 - "Sorry to bother you, but since Denny's does not offer a direct e-mail link, you will do. It's nice that you are there since Denny's appears to not have the guts to accept online feedback - I wouldn't if I were them - it would be a career in itself responding to the complaints! I put Denny's in Westerville Ohio in the same category as the local K-mart: Every six months I come back full of hope that it will be better, and remembering something vaguely good about the last time I was there, only to have my hopes dashed against the rocks of the worst service on earth.
First the good news: Denny's has good food. The price point is right too - especially the grand slam breakfast for $2.99! In fact, this is what keeps me coming back with the hope that they have their act together. If the food was bad on top of everything else, then Denny's would just be a long forgotten experience.
Today, May 21, was another typical letdown...we got to the restaurant at 12:55 on a Sunday - admittedly a busy time for any restaurant. Due to a shortage of help or some other reason, they were only seating people in some of the tables. So we sat for 40 minutes looking at a half-empty restaurant while people moved at half speed clearing some tables. They ended up seating us at a table that was vacant for the entire time we waited (bright, huh?) Once we got to our seat at 1:35 the waitress was nice enough and took our order promptly. 35 minutes later at 2:10, the food arrived just as we were thinking of going to McDonalds and leaving this place. Guess what - the food was good (again). We left the restaurant an hour and 45 minutes after arriving - still half empty and with a line of people waiting to eat. I have never seen a business that did so little to try to keep you coming back - just think how much money they could have made if only they seated faster, cooked faster, and cleared the tables promptly at the end. (and maybe cleaned the restroom once in a while "pee yoo!")
I wonder if Denny's is a not-for-profit enterprise that really would prefer you to stay home! The trip we made today certainly suggests that. Well, I have made up my mind to say "never again" and I will stick to it this time! (at least until the anger fades and I run out of other restaurants to visit on a Sunday afternoon) Too bad, because we would go there twice a month if they could get their act together.
Thanks for the website to let off a little steam...Hey Denny's - if you want to really hear how people feel, how about making it easier to reach you on the Net? If you want good feedback, how about managing the restaurants better!"

- June 24, 2003 - "The last time I ate in this Denny's was some time ago. Service was poor and the kindest words for the food were "so-so." I should know better than to stray from the breakfast items. The "Moon Over My-Hammy" had problems -- my wife got sick. But, it was 11 PM and Denny's was serving. Alas, the Westerville Denny's is no more. It was bulldozed in early 2003 and the site is becoming a new Bob Evans location."

Youngstown, Ohio
- "My friend Carl and I, as high school seniors, stopped at Denny's after a big night of drinking 3.2 beer (Ohio, 1979) and trying unsuccessfully to meet girls. No money in our pockets, we ordered up big cups of bottomless coffee and gigantic slabs of pie. Deeeeeelicious.
After the last bites, we leaped the velvet cord thing and hit the door running. Just when we thought we were home free, some kitchen dudes, still shiny with Pam cooking spray on their skin, appeared in hot pursuit (kitchen utensils shining beneath parking lot beacons).
Carl, not known for athletic prowess or driving skills, dove into his mom's Audi Fox just as I was slamming my door, slammed the Fox into gear, and peeled off into the Youngstown, Ohio night. We laughed later remembering the raised arms and depressed expressions of the Denny's dudes.
Our karma, it seems, eventually caught up with us. Within weeks, I was flipping pancakes at the local Perkins; Carl was burning burgers at a local Dairy Queen (he was ultimately fired for writing "Hot God" instead of "Hot Dog" on the marquee. I went nuts and broke dozens of "farm-fresh" eggs all over the walk-in cooler." - written prior to September, 1999
