Las Vegas, Nevada
- November 13, 2000 - "Sitting smack dab in the middle of The Strip, the Las Vegas Denny's is sandwiched between the MGM Grand and the glitziest Wallgreens/McDonalds shopping center you will ever see in your life. I've been there once, on the road trip that I mentioned in my Buttonwillow story, with a few friends I had met in Vegas. One in particular, Dark Cactus, made the night quite amusing. Our watress was a charming young lady named Lenore, who gave us excellent service and didn't at all mind bringing us a multitude of different dipping sauces for our fries, wings, chicken strips, cheese sticks, and anything else we could think of dipping. Dark Cactus hadn't had any sleep in two days, so he was a bit delirious and ended up proposing to our watress. Lenore politely declined, saying she was arleady engaged, but he would have none of that. When we left he had given her a $24 tip on an order of chicken strips in the hopes of winning her love eternal. Sadly, it was never meant to be."

Mesquite, Nevada
- "I guess I was kind of naive, I expected there to be slot machines in every single establishment in Nevada, including schools, hospitals and churches. I walked into the Denny's on Mesquite Blvd. with a roll of quarters, and feeling pretty darned lucky. Talk about a let down, there wasn't a hint of gambling there, in fact it was an anti-gambling atmosphere, becase there was a large Mormon church within view. Fun Fact: There are more moths in Mesquite than people in China. They get into the buildings, and every place you go into has roughly one gagillion moths flying around the doors. The window in my hotel room had a sign that said, "Don't open window, as flying insects may enter."" - written prior to September, 1999

- "I went to St. George, Utah over the weekend to visit my father-in-law in the hospital. After visiting hours were over, my husband and I went to Mesquite (about a 40 minute drive) for a little R&R. We had not eaten for about 8 hours and were quite hungry. We stopped at the Denny's in Mesquite around 8 o'clock Saturday night. There were 3 other occupied tables in the smoking section (how nice to have that option, you cannot smoke in restaurants in California), and only 1 of them was waiting for their order. We ordered around 8:05 and by 8:45 we still had not received our food or had any indication that it was almost ready. If this had been a full restaurant it would have been a little easier to understand, but this was ridiculous. This was the first time that I can ever remember walking out of a restaurant before I even got my food. I have had full lobster dinners served quicker than this. I have never had any trouble in any Denny's I have ever gone to (and I have been to quite a few), but after this experience I don't think I'll go back to one.
PS We went to the Burger King next door and got our order in less than 4 minutes. It wasn't quite what I had in mind, but at least it was something to eat!" - written prior to September, 1999

Minden, Nevada
- "We here in Minden, Nv. (Just east of lake Tahoe) are the lucky ones to get a new Denny's next to our sewage treatment plant. why did they choose this location? Coincidence? I think not. anyway the place is very swanky and moderne, yet, as you can imagine, the smell is frequently unappetizing. I've been in there once or twice, but it is not a regular thing for me." - written prior to September, 1999

- "Dear Mr. P7a77. My name is Shannon Casey and a little while ago we were in Minden, NV for the state debate tournament when we got hungry. So we started walking down the street looking for some food. Lo and behold, there is a glorious Denny's awaiting us. So we walk in through these hella funky glass doors, trying unsuccessfully to escape the rank odor that pervades the town. our group of 6 or so was seated, but we noticed the waitress gave us an extra set of silverware. Being kind people and not wishing to expose her mistake, we chose to steal it instead of loudly exclaiming her poor math skills in front of the other costomers (consisting solely of aging farmers). My friend "Alexis" slyly slipped the entire set into her pocket with relatively little clanking. As we walked out after a decent meal (as good as poor students can afford), a few heads turned at Alexis's metallic gait but we escaped undetected. We felt a slight twinge of guilt, but this was erased when Alexis put the utensils to good use in her next speech. She used the knife and spoon to demonstrate the difference between men and women in the army (don't even begin to ask). Is this still illegal? Or were we justified in our attempt to create order in a chaotic world?" - written prior to September, 1999

Reno, Nevada
- June 2, 2000 - "Good day! I am forwarding a letter which I wrote to the owners of the franchised Denny's unit on Plumb Lane in Reno, Nevada. In addition to the letter, I contacted the corporate office and have been talking with Anglina.
I am correct in my assessment of the manager, which led me to bypass her in the first place, since the situation has not been resolved satisfactory at the time. However, the manager did sit me down on morning and then proceeded to "tongue lash" me about how wrong I was and that I was a touble maker. I could return to her store, "if I behaved myself and treated the employees nicely." I have since been back once to the store to apologize to a waitress that was chastised over the incident and have never been back since. The manner in which the "manager" approached me was most embarrassing and on several occasions during our conference, I felt like asking her for my 'final paycheck!' She handled the situation very, very poorly and treated me as though I was an employee, rather than a customer. She was insensitive to the needs of the customers and very unprofessional in handling the conference. She informed me that she would listen to the owners recommendations on any number of topics and then turn around and proceed to do what "she thought was best." My impression in the business world is that the owner is the boss of the manager, not the other way around. The manager also said that she has little regard for the company itself and gave the notion she would not listen to the company suggestions either.
The corporate office had informed me that either the owners or manager would contact me; both have failed to do so at present. I believe that the manager has shrugged the situation off and feels that the issue would fade out over time.
What I want to know is why did the manager handle our conference as a manager-to-employee relationship, rather than a manager-to customer. I'm still waiting for my final paycheck!

On the morning of March 18th I had entered into the restaurant and noticed how busy it was. I replaced a gentleman who left the end seat at the counter in station 1. Seated next to me was a couple who had not ordered at that time. As I approached the seat, Mike had stepped up to the couple with menus and asked if they had been waited on and their reply was “no.” As I sat down, I figured that it would be a few minutes before being waited on and I accepted this fact, due to the volume of business at that moment. I pushed away to the side an empty glass of milk, a spoon and a wadded up napkin. Those three items remained on the counter for the duration of my visit.
I sat waiting for about 5 to 8 minutes before Tim poured me a cup of coffee. He had been working station 2 at the time and noticed the lack of attention. I watched as Mike then at times would tray up another server’s food and promptly take it out for the server or take out food in his own station. Eye contact was avoided by Mike during my stay and never acknowledged my presence. He had poured coffee to the couple seated next to me and turned back to the coffee station to replace the pot. When the couple left, he was there to promptly pick up his tip.
Soon another customer arrived and sat three stools from me, ordered Oats, toast and coffee. The cooks placed the order in the window, but Mike was having trouble receiving the ticket for taking the order out. He conveyed irritation towards the cooks and after several bouts of deciding as to whether to take the oats off the line, did so, delivered the order and rushed to his next task. The customer lacked jelly for his toast. And I noted the exasperation of the customer and finally mentioned to Tim standing nearby, that the customer wanted jelly.
All the while, I still had not been recognized by Mike. The items from the previous customer stay lay in the same spot which I had pushed them to and it was finally a busboy who came along to clear the spot when I finally left and was immediately replaced by another customer.
Mike had blatantly ignored my presence at the counter and I do not believe this is the sign of a professional employee. I have noted in the past that he extends an “unprofessional” attitude towards his co-workers as well, belittling them when he speaks at them. He displays an arrogant, superior manner when he is on the floor and I believe this has caused some dissention and resentment from his co-workers. Often, when has trayed up another server’s order, he will quickly take it to the table and announce, “So-and-so asked me to bring this out!” I have witnessed this scenario numerous times and if were the recipient customer to this remark, I would feel that the original server were trying to avoid me for some reason. I have witnessed the situation and I have never heard the server ask Mike to take out their food. I understand it is a general courtesy to the customer and server to deliver hot food to the table by someone else if that particular server is not in a immediate position to undertake the task themselves. The remark should be stricken from his lips totally!
I have also noted that if he happens on break and tables are pending, he quickly retreats to the back room with his meal, only to return within 10 minutes, to “grab” a cup of coffee and check to see the status of his section. If a customer was in the process of departing, he would remain behind until the table cleared in order to obtain his tip. I view this is untrusting towards his co-workers and very gluttonous. It does not display a good impression on the part of the server. When I worked at Harrah’s, we were condemned from this “swooping” practice and were in fact ordered to at least take some plates off the table to imply a better impression.
Another incident occurred one early morning a couple weeks ago, when he came in before his shift. Ruth was the only one on the floor and was busy inputting orders into the computer. Mike stepped up to her, said something, then put his arms around her in a belittling manner, while he continued conversing. Ruth never said anything at the time and may not have thought about it; however, according to the sexual harassment rulings that have come to past, it need not be the person directly involved in the incident. A bystander may find it offensive and file a complaint as such. Obviously, at some point in time, servers have come into contact with each other for whatever reasons and I would not say anything; yet because of the attitude from this individual, the action was not warranted.
The general consensus of the staff is bitterness towards Mike. I believe that an interview with all that have worked with him may prove interesting and have unanimous animosity against him. He creates confusion on the floor, promotes a stressful environment and displays distrust of his fellow employees; while flaunting an air of superiority and arrogance.
In conclusion, I believe wholeheartedly, that Mike is not worthy of continuous employment in your establishment, since a lecture would fall upon deaf ears. I am hoping that this matter can be resolved promptly and without complications.
Thank you for your time,"

- February 22, 2001 - "(visit on 26 August, 2000) After spending the previous five hours in a Reno casino, (average age of patrons is approx. 412yrs.), the Denny's off I-80 was a refreshing change. Our waitress was one of those women who you think, "She'd be kind of hot if she hadn't been working at Denny's for 15 years, had seventeen children, and smoked four thousand packs of cigarettes a day. If only......" Other than that, another standard Denny's experience."

- June 9, 2003 - "We visited the Denny's in Reno NV (the one off of well's ave. and I-80 and I swear this was the BEST denny's we've ever been too!! We had a waitress named "Debbie" for our early dinner and she was very nice and quick! we had ordered a "lemonade cup" that minute maid was offering and she had refilled it right before we left. the food was HOT and better tasting than I had tasted before. (and yes, we've been to a lot of denny's) The next day we went again since it was the closest place to out hotel and the place was PACKED!! it was about 11am so we ordered lunch, Jose (our other server) was just a young kid, but totally on it. Fast food, hot and again, taste....excellent!! Their new BBQ beef sand. was excellent! we couldn't believe we were eating at denny's. the place was clean, awesome staff and quick and on the move. I would have to rate this one by far the best we have been too!!! EXCELLENT!! Keep up the good work!!"
