Ensenda, Mexico
- "Visited Denny's in Ensenda, Mexico once. They had the good ole favorites plus fish tacos that a small boy would run out to the near by docks and buy from stalls with fire stoves. They also had some sort of private miltia, a Denny's Special Forces if you will. It was surreal! It had this parallel universe type of feel!" - written prior to September, 1999

Juarez, Mexico
- "my best friend and i have been going to denny's since our junior year of high school. we have been to the denny's in juarez, mexico (which is now a sanborn's). at one point, during an extreme caffeine buzz around finals time our freshman year of college, we vowed to climb atop the denny's sign and declare it an independent nation (much like the similar greenwich village event), but someone told us the pole was made of fiberglass. some dreams die easy.w" - written prior to September, 1999

Mexico City, Mexico
- January 12, 2001 - "Fun website you got there, pal. By the way, several years ago I went with my family to Mexico City. I assume it hasn't changed all that much.
At the time, there were literally as many Denny's (and also Kentucky Fried Chicken) within the big city as there seem to be McDonalds here. LITERALLY. I myself remember seeing at least 7 or 8. And me and my folks went to about 4 of them.
They were pretty much the same in the way they look. You know, the old-plasticky-fake-wood-paneling look to the walls, brightly colored accents here and there, pots of fake flowers to add some "realism", etc etc. The things we come to expect of the architectural design of Denny's here in the U.S. (at least, here in Southern California).
But as for the menu......WOW. There was a small section of the menu with "American" style food (burgers and the like), but most of it was basic Mexican food. Enchiladas of various types, quite a few varieties of Mexican egg omelet dishes that are popular there (chicharron, mole, ham, ranchero, etc), mole dinner plates, burrito combos, albondigas soup, etc etc. (By the way, in case you don't know....."mole" is pronounced "mo-leh", and its this sort of spicy chili sauce thing. Yum yum.)
My mom (who is black & mexican) complained of it being rather "bland" like the Mexican food here in the U.S., and not very "authentic". Haha. Dad was just happy we were eating somewhere he was sure we wouldn't get the local food poisoning from."

Tijuana, Mexico
- "Back in 1984, I went to Tijuana, Mexico with two friends and remember visiting a Denny's on Revolution Blvd. It was exactly like the Denny's in the States, except that the menu was in Spanish, and there was a map of Mexico showing all of the cities with Denny's in that country (I wish that I would have saved it, but we had all been drinking, so none of us were thinking very clearly. I have not been to Tijuana since 1985, so I do not know if this Denny's is still around." - written prior to September, 1999

- "The Denny's in Tijuana, Mexico was definately the dirtiest I ever visited. We had seen our waitress earlier in the day, topless, serving beers in a strip joint down the street. also had chips and salsa at all of the tables." - written prior to September, 1999

- December 25, 1999 - "I was in TJ a few years ago. We stopped in Denny's to get a soda. They had a guestbook with places for comments. One has stuck out in my mind since that night. While I might not remember it exactly, it was substantially,
I came to TJ. I got drunk. The Federales busted me and took all my money...and then I went to Denny's.
If that doesn't come about as close to saying it, then I guess nothing does!"

- August 15, 2002 - "Several years ago i was on vacation in san diego. some locals i met talked me into going down to tijuana one night to go bar hopping. well, after a frightening, disturbing & unhappy evening we were walking back to the border crossing & i had to use a restroom desperately. i spotted the dennys sign & felt such a relief--a symbol i can recognize & feel good about. so, i went in to use the restroom (this was around 2:00 a.m.). there was a tijuana cop standing outside of the restroom doors. when he saw me coming, he put up his hands to stop me & said, "no, no--fifty dollars, fifty dollars". my reaction was something to the effect of "er, no, well, i, uh, just want to, uh, bathroom" he responded in an annoyed fashion, "NO, NO, FIFTY DOLLARS". so, i mumbled "no thanks" and went back outside to my waiting "friends". they started laughing as i relayed to them the experience i'd just had. they informed me that it was a common occurance for the local hookers to use the bathrooms at restaurants to engage in their profession. the cops often guarded the doors for a small fee. and that's my tijuana dennys experience."
