Annapolis, Maryland
- "I just wanted to let you know that my best friend and I always go to the Denny's in Annapolis, Md. They used to have quesadillas there & they rocked, but they took them off of the menu about a year ago. There's also a cook there who looks something like Wierd Al, but with long, scraggly hair. He can sometimes be spotted walking along the streets of Annapolis, either going to or coming from work, I suppose." - written prior to September, 1999

- "Waitressed here in 1990 and have since been back on various occasions. The last visit was Nov 1998 around 3 AM. After waiting to sit down, I ordered Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs with hash browns, wheat toast & an iced tea. (in waitress language this is CFS & Eggs OE HB WT IT btw) The CFS was good, the eggs as ordered. I'd asked the waitress (Debbie?) for hash browns *well done* because the pale imitation reconstituted psuedo-potatoes need to be almost burnt before I can eat them but alas! no luck they sat on my plate like white worms until I threw Tabasco sauce at them. Lots of freaks & it looked like the bar scene folks were still hanging around, They'd redecorated in the dark green since I worked there." - written prior to September, 1999

- "last visit: 1994 - Attendees: Jai & Pilar - Walked in around 2 PM on a Sunday. Took 20 minutes for a table (they weren't that crowded) 12 minutes for a waitress to actually ask us if we wanted to order (no, no thanks! we're just sitting here in a restaurant because we're weird. yeah right) Took an amazing 33 minutes for our breakfast items (Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs, Grand Slam) to arrive at the table. They weren't that busy. We finally noticed that just about every person in the room looked over at our table at least once (including the cooks). It dawned on us that Pilar was the only african-american in the place. Needless to say, we didn't finish our meal AND didn't leave a tip." - written prior to September, 1999

Frederick, Maryland
- "i'm writing about the denny's in Frederick, MD. Being one of the two frederick resturants that are open just about every night, denny's is the place to find weirdo's, punks, hippies, psychics, and freaks late at night. Unfortunately it also draws drunken rednecks and whiney preps, the latter of which got a group of us kicked out for merely operating a harmless water pistol. we had to leave (but what a great way to get free coffee...) if your ever in the area, check out the windows in the smoking section. the pickle just might still be there." - written prior to September, 1999

- "It is a frequent hangout for stupid Ft. Detrick men, drunken rednecks, and women who just don't know that spandex is out. On the other hand, though, there is that wonderful Laticia who always puts up with our noise, and the waitress with the short blonde hair that just looks frazzled. " - written prior to September, 1999

- "I was doing some work out at FT Detrick, and spotted a Denny's on the way out. So, obviously, I had to stop. The decor was the typical late 70's early 80's Denny's standard. The service was very good however. Our waitress was very good. I think her name was Michelle. The other guys just had some coffee, but I had the moon over my Hammy. The presentation was classic Denny's and I didn't even have to wait very long. Most importantly it tasted good. (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) My glass was clean, unlike my earlier visit to the Laurel MD Denny's and the Coke didn't taste like peat moss. There was no employee there who looked like weird Al, but one of the guys I work with, Thad Backes, has a stated intention of entering a Weird Al look-alike contest. I think he'd win. Well that concludes my review. Overall, I'd recommend this Denny's. On a 1 to 10 scale, it's an 8 1/2." - written prior to September, 1999

- "well im quite a fan of denny's as well and i have a rather interesting story too. Four of my friends were at the local denny's late one night, they always go to denny's when they're drunk. and one of them was all hitting on the hostess. Mind you my friends were 18-19 at the time and this woman was at least in her thirties. Then she starts flirting back and talking dirty to them and such. So they find out she's 38 and has kids that are 20+ and two others 5 and 7. So my friends are all trying to get her to go back home with them and she invites them over to her place, but since her kids were there they refused and instead suggested going to one of their other friends houses. She agreed and when they got there she gave a strip show and gave lap dances then took everyone, one at a time, into another room and gave them head. Then she left. true story, and my friend most memoriable experience at denny's" - written prior to September, 1999

- December 26, 2001 - "Yesterday evening we went to the Denny's on Quince Orchard Road, Gaithersburg, Maryland, and although we have enjoyed Denny's restaurants many times in many places, this was a disaster.
1. Our order was not taken until we had been there for at least 30 minutes.
2. At about 45 minutes, we finally got a glass of water.
3. We ordered 2 salads, 2 turkey dinners. In an hour's time, we were brought 2 beef dishes. The sides were correct but not the meat. We asked if we could at least have the salads.
4. Another 15 minutes or so and we got the salads. A small salad on a very small plate - not the usual salad plate. It was so small there was not even room to manage to eat it without it spilling off the plate. I asked why the salads were not on the usual salad plates used at Denny's and was told that they did not have any clean. The salads were .99 cents extra.
5. In approximately 15 more minutes, we were finally served the turkey dinners? We have eaten these turkey dinners before at Denny's and what we got last evening was what seemed to be a very small child's portion on a small oval dish that might normally be used for a hamburger and fries. We asked for bread and were told they were out of rolls and the usual herb toast. They said all they had was thin-sliced sandwich bread which my husband ate with some jelly, which had been left on the table, smeared on it. No butter, no margarine . When I asked again if they did not have anything else, I was offered the same bread dry-toasted, which I declined. They were still serving burgers, so I know they had bread that they put them on. The turkey and stuffing dinners were $6.69 ea. On the back of the menu, it listed a Senior turkey and stuffing dinner for $5.09. Our's was not even the size that the senior dinner for $1.60 less should have been
6. We were there for 2 hours, and left very hungry. I should have ordered a burger, at least I would have known what I was getting, as I did not see them cutting the size on them, but for Christmas dinner??
7. We were not the only ones - one large table got up and left, saying that they had no more time. Two other people near us were asking for bread. Another was asking where his stuffing was.
I have never had such a disastrous meal anywhere anytime. I will probably go to a Denny's again but certainly not this one."

- November 8, 2004 - "The service can be okay if you sweet talk the waitresses, but every six months the store manager, Bill gets a notion to try to get rid of the regukars...me and my best friend...all we do is sit in a corner booth that's rarely used anyway, drink our coffee, eat our food, and make chainmaille jewelry..we don't cause any problems....this time he's mandated that we cant make our chainmaille there because the rings we use tear the seats...now I don't know if you've ever seen a sterling silver 22 gauge 3/32 ID ring, but the ring would bend itself in half before even scratching the seat...there is no way in hell our rings could tear it. Bill just has a vendetta against us. One night after we had both ordered dinner, Bill ended up yelling at my friend like he was his 12 year old daughter. Oh..and almost all the waitresses are 14-17 year old girls, and Bill does the hiring...kinda suspicious...so we are all in the middle of a large boycott of that denny's.......oh and it has a rat that the staff named Andale, because they can't ever catch it."

Laurel, Maryland
- "I just came back from The Denny's on HWY 1 in Laurel Maryland. I had a terrrible time! first it took them like ten minutes to seat my friend and I. When they finally seated us the table had some kind of greasy crust on it. The walls were yellow and spotted with grease. The bench was so slimy I almost slid off of it. THE flourescent lights were flickering in some odd oscillating pattern. Fortunately I wasn't under the influence of anything, or I might have been the victim of some severe gastric distress from the appearance alone. Then when the waitress delivered our beverages, my coke was flat and tasted as if someone had rinsed out their socks in it. I ordered the T-bone steak and`eggs. I never received my toast and the hashbrown was absolutely reeking of butter flavored cooking spray. To make things worse, the absent minded waitress lost our check, and their computer was down, so we had to wait ten minutes for her to print us out a new check. I was not horribly impressed to say the least." - written prior to September, 1999

- "In scanning the reviews for the soverign state of Maryland, I saw two mentions of the Denny's on route 1 in Laurel, Maryland. Both of them were negative. I am pleased to add my own, also negative.
In the countless times I have been there, I have been promptly seated less than half a dozen times. My own threshold of waiting is five minutes. Not one second more. On my last visit some months ago, a waitress escorted a regular customer out of line behind me and cleared a table for him while others who had been waiting were left standing until, that is, I had a screaming fit and the manager arrived. If this hurdle is overcome, the service is consistently good. The food is generally the same. I mean where can you go on a weekday and get a large breakfast (grand slam) for $3. The standards for cleanliness are deplorable. I've been served coffee in a cup with a lipstick print on the rim, have had ants marching across the table and when I pointed them out to the waitress had her flick them in my lap with a wet (and dirty) cloth. The place has not been redecorated in my memory and I can't get beyond the door of the rest room even to wash my hands because of the smell. Once you've been seated, served and eaten your meal, the next purgatory is paying to leave. The waitresses are very good about giving you your check promptly. There is then a contest to see how many people can ignore you while you wait to pay. On that fateful last visit, there was no change and someone had to go to "the back" to get more. Well, I think "the back" was the bank down the street because almost ten people waited over 10 minutes for him to come back with a few rolls of quarters and some one's.
Why do I go? Well, I haven't been back, but some day I will get the yen for pancakes, bacon, eggs, etc. without me having to trash my kitchen to get them." - written prior to September, 1999

- September 22, 2001 - "Hey!!! It's cool that you are on a mission to visit all the Denny's! that's quite a task and you've been to so many! I am a local of the LaVale, MD area.. so i frequent denny's here! I don't remember ever being to another Denny's ever! but my friends go to denny's every weekend night.. and sometimes during the week! this town goes to bed around 10.. and denny's is pretty much the only place that is open 24 hours! i am a huge coffee fan! and like you said... it's the only place where you can get moons over my hammy!!! not only is it mine and all my friends favorite meal on the menu, but it is also the funniest thing to hear them say! and they make the waitresses say it everytime!! we are always quite crazy in there! and even though we do not have a counter as you said in your review ( i didn't even know it was a common thing for denny's cause it's the only one i've been in) we love the place! but i can see how a counter would be great to sit at and drink coffee and have a cigarette (if i smoked)!
"anyways.. i just wanted to let you know that i think you're excursion is awesome! and i found your site on the eve6.com website!!! they are my fav band! and apparently they like your website cause it's on their links! kick ass! oh and my roomie works for denny's now!"

- September 26, 2001 - "Hey This Is a Great site, I found it by accident this evening after work. Anyway... I'm a longtime Denny's goer ( I live on the edge of the plate so to speak). My friend, her daughter & I end up at Denny's In LaVale, MD. almost every Tuesday & Thursday nights after 9pm. -when we get off work. It's a small cozy, super friendly (except when the one night cook calls off -Yikes)Êand fairly clean one, we always have a good time and after 10pm. is the best time to take in the atmosphere, tho the service can be slower at that time, We always manage to stay entertained we'll play table-top ice hockey with the ice from our glasses, and sometimes get other tables involved, we check to make sure the other patrons look like they might enjoy a little diversion before we start. we try not to carry on every time as this is the only place open after 9pm. and we always say thank god for Denny's."

Ocean City, Maryland
- "Dear Denny's Dude:
I love Denny's just as much as the next woman who's been out partying all night and needs sustenance... But let me tell you about the Denny's in Ocean City right next to a Comfort Inn off of Route 1.
Last night we went to a totally hoppin' bar called Seacrets. If you ever have a chance to check it out, do. Right on 49th Street and Route 1, it's a $5.00 cover charge to enter a beach paradise... 5+ outdoor bars that open directly on the ocean, including dance floor, live bands, beach, swimming, and affordable food and drink.
But I'm here to talk about Denny's, aren't I? After partying until 2 A.M. at Seacrets, we needed food. We walked into the aforementioned Denny's and froze in place. Literally. It was SO COLD! We asked the host at the desk why it was so cold. She explained that the management jacked up the thermostat in the daytime, and it was impossible to turn it down later because the thermostats were locked. Our waitress, Lisa, said it was actually bearable at high noon, but once the sun went down... 65 degress and the A/C was still pumping freezing air directly down on us! We looked at the ceiling. The frigid air was further helped by more A/C vents than your average skyscraper should have. Every 2-foot square area was occupied by a vent!
Now, I know that some Denny's managers make their restaurants uncomfortable at night on purpose. (At 2 A.M., what are you going to get but drunken groups of partying bohemians or insomniacs? Get 'em in, get 'em fed, get 'em payin', get 'em out!) But this was ridiculous... Not just uncomfortable, but UNBEARABLE!
We'll never go back, and we'll spread the word about that particular Denny's unless I get a decent response from them when I call the 800 number you provided... I'll be sure to update you on that. Long live the clean, comfortable, delicious Denny's we all love!!!!!" - written prior to September, 1999

- August 22, 2001 - "To the poster who said that Denny's in Ocean City, MD was really cold...I worked there this summer and the air conditioning never worked. It was over 80 degrees almost everyday in there. I dont remember it ever being 65 degrees, not even in April"

Parkville, Maryland
- "Dennys #????
8125 Belair Rd.
Parkville, Md
Date/Time Unknown
Attendees: Starr, Jason, Greg (or Craig or something)
Wait Person: Lorraine
What We Ate: Sampler, Buffalo Chicken Strips, Seasoned Fries (all shared), Coffee (starr), Coffee & a Coke (jason), Coke (greg or whatever his name was)
This is one of the few Dennys in Maryland where you can smoke, and so of course, we opted for the smoking section. The service was wonderful. Lorraine is a friendly old woman, and upon request, sat and joined us at the table for a bit. The food came out pretty quickly, and seemed less greasy than normal. Although, in our state, we would have eaten just about anything set before us. There were a few other customers in the smoking section, but they all seemed pretty quiet. And then, the entertainment came. A group of 16 year old boys who seemed to be unable to say anything that sounded even remotely intelligent. We enjoyed watching the pudgy one with the camouflage bandana, who seemed to think he was Tupac reincarnate. And the comments.. oh they were great. The boys had decided to comment on every woman who walked into the store, and we actually heard them say "nah.. that one's over 14.." All in all, it was a comical evening. Even though we were almost finished eating when the group of young boys came in, we ended up staying another hour and a half just because we were so amused.
WAY: Yes (manager - her name is unknown)
Free Stuff: 1 set of silverware (still rolled up in napkin), sugar container, ashtray" - written prior to September, 1999

- "June 1998 - Attendees: Jai & Tammie Newlin - First visit to this particular Dennys. Workers were doing something with the sign out front when I drove up. Walked in, the place was kind of a mess. Tables not bussed, paper stuff on the floor. Like they'd just had a huge crowd & hadn't had a chance to clean up after them. Table felt slimy even after I asked the waitress to wipe it down again. Can't remember what either one of us order. It was okay but nothing good." - written prior to September, 1999

- "I visited this Dennys over Spring Break. It is on E Timonium Rd Right off the I-83 exit. It is inside of a Days Inn. It also has a full bar inside of it. An intresting thing about the reciept is that you can recieve room service in the Days Inn from the Dennys. The food was just like any other Dennys. They didn't butter the bread on the Patty Melt." - written prior to September, 1999

Waldorf, Maryland
- "If you guys think the two spots youv'e seen in maryland are bad, then you should try waldorf, maryland. on any given weekend night you can see a fight, drug deals, underage degenerate nicotine addicts who's parents only wish they knew, and many other oddville type occurences. My name is Ben and I am a waiter at Denny's in Waldorf. I am getting ready for work now. My shift starts at 10 P.M. and goes into the morning hours at around 6 A.M. Come check us out sometime, but don't come in at 4:20 cause I wont be around to meet. Thanxs for reading my letter. I haven't mailed anybody anything before so I hope you get this." - written prior to September, 1999

- April 1, 2002 - "Attendees: Chris, Jay, Steph
Wait-person(s): Some haggard old bag
What we ate: Chris-Grand Slam Breakfast; Steph-Moons over My Hammy; Jay-Orange Juice and the Club Sandwich
After a half-dozen pitchers at a local bar called "Rascals," which is the bar equivalent of Denny's, we decided to head over to Denny's and have a quick bite. Our waitress was a grizzled old woman with a massive chip on her shoulder. She reeked of stale-ass cigarette smoke and had one of those really deep smoker's voices. Plus she was mean. After about a millions years, she finally came over to our table and asked us what we wanted (like she cared!). We gave her our orders and she just walked away without even pretending like she was glad to server us (WTF?). Anyways, that was messed up. When you go into Denny's, you pay for friendly and fast service. After half an hour passed with no sign of our food or the washed up hag, we were getting a little antsy so we made our way to the cashier's desk. Nobody was there, so we yelled through the food window for help. Some fat guy with no apron on told us that that old lady had died on smoke break and we were out of luck. Alright, she didn't die, but she might as well have. Later, we finally got our food and it looked just like it did on the menu--A+. We scarfed it down quickly becuase some punk looking 12 year olds in the booth next to us were starting to scare us. Plus Stephanie puked. My food was pretty good, but Jay thought his club sandwich was "pre-prepared." I think he was right. Stephanie gave her Moons over My Hammy highest marks for presentation and taste. Anyways, since Stephanie had to go and puke and those little kids were eyeing us in a really creepy way, we had to go. Unfortunately, we were unable to take a picture of our waitress because we never saw here after she took our orders. And we didn't have a camera. But it didn't matter because she died or whatever anyway. Overall, a decidedly mediocre Denny's experience. Pales in comparison to the superior (and newer) College Park Denny's experience. Didn't have the depressingly under-budgetly charm of Beltsville Denny's or the "used-to-be-a-Waffle-House" facade of the Iowa City, Iowa Denny's.

Westminster, Maryland
- February 11, 2001 - "I went back to Westminster, MD last weekend to visit my old college. Some friends and I weren't sure where to go for dinner, and we ended up at Denny's (which was a Shoney's when I went there a couple of years ago). This was actually a "Denny's Diner," which I haven't seen before. I didn't see anybody that looks like Weird Al - my friend insisted on waiting for a table in his frat brother's section, and he turned out to be the tall geeky type. The menu at "Denny's Diner" looked about the same as every other menu I've seen at Denny's. Because Maryland has strict rules about smoking, and any restaurant's smoking section must be entirely walled off from the rest of the place and have its own ventilation system - this Denny's placed theirs behind thick glass windows. It made the rest of the place seem a lot smaller to have half of it closed off."
