Anderson, Indiana
- "The Denny's here in Anderson, Indiana is strange. The only couple times I've been in there its given me the Willies. Its dimly lit, and smaller than any other Denny's I've seen. Its always full of truckers and farmers and the night we were there, there was only one person working there. She served as cook, waitress and cashier. The atmosphere was of the kind of place that nobody comes to and nobody talks about after they've left. It seemed like a person could committ some sort of hideous crime and hide out there and the cops would never find them. Very eerie." - written prior to September, 1999

Bloomington, Indiana
- "Being a college town, our local Denny's clientele is always a mix of high school students, frat boys (weekends after the bars close) and Southern Indiana rednecks. The best thing about our Denny's is that we have a waitress, I kid you not, named Perky!! She is, of course, always on the weekend graveyard shift, and always a bitch. Unfortunately, she does not look like Weird Al (well in the gray light of dawn....)" - written prior to September, 1999

- "The Bloomington Denny's was remodeled in 1994 or 1995 with various shades of pink and blue, and the old counter seats were removed. There are still booths in the front of the store that overlook Walnut Street, and there's a big room in the back with a bunch of more random tables. The best time to visit is after 2am on a Friday or Saturday, when everyone stumbles from the clubs to get something to eat, and the back room is filled with drunken rowdiness and the waitresses really have to work for their paychecks. Avoid Sunday morning breakfast, as there are usually lines out the door. Tuesday or Wednesday evenings are nice for conversation, writing, or coffee. There's a full ice cream bar if you're into that, and their food tends to be on the decent side. I think their Weird Al lookalike might be one of the fry cooks, but I'm not sure - I'll check when I visit in December." - written prior to September, 1999

- "My name is Don Renfro and I love Denny's. I frequent the local Bloomington Denny's where my friends Natalie and Michelle about every two days. I've been to the Speedway Dennys in Speedway, IN, the Castleton Dennys in Indianapolis, the Lafayette Dennys in IN, the Merrillville, IN one, the Colombus, OH one. I plan to frquent more. By far the best service is in Bloomington and in Colombus. The best seating is in Castleton! I love Dennys." - written prior to September, 1999

- "My wife and I were recently on a short "Weekend" and happened to stop at the Denny's in Bloomington. The wait staff was excellant and the food was great. The only bad part about the dinner was the waitress wanting to lie down on the table, (not really) but she seemed overly freindly, Outside of that this is a rest. you must see. Clean and organized. I hope you find the same experience that we did, and Yes!! there is a weird Al wanna be in charge at that one too!!" - written prior to September, 1999

- "hello from denny's employee #3029! My name is dale, I'm the one who throws out all you drunken, unruly slobs at 3a.m. Our Denny's is fun! The food is greasy, the service superb, if you are smoker. Non/Sm is hit and miss. Us employees all yell at each other (listen for the cook screaming "DALE WRAY"). And we have a BRAND NEW HUGE WORKING!!!! A/C." - written prior to September, 1999

- December 12, 2000 - "My fiance and I met in Bloomington, IN in the business school advising office. Our first "date" was at the local Denny's. Okay, so it wasn't supposed to be a date -- he was trying to sell me his laptop computer. However, we never did talk about that computer. We stayed at the Denny's for many hours into the night. He had coffee; I ordered the Oreo Ooey Gooey Sundae (yum). The rest is history! The wedding is sometime next year and probably won't involve any Denny's, but I won't rule it out. ;)"

Clarksville, Indiana
- "Great job with the site, great job with your life. Its seems however, that on your pass through southern indiana you neglected to stop in at MY denny's, the denny's from hell (#6666), clarksville, IN. I'm an at-least-four-times-a-weeker there. Most people are. there aren't a whole lot of other options in southern indiana, you know. i was also wondering, where can i order denny's merchandise? (bumper stickers, keychains, t-shirts, whatever.)" - written prior to September, 1999

- November 2, 2000 - "A friend of mine emailed to me the link to your site, where under Clarksville IN, a friend of ours (Steve Knight) commented on your site. I can't say that I congradulate you on your life project (if you see it as such), because I would hope that all Dennys regulars may one day escape. It seems that the paragraph on the back of the night menu has become a self fulfilling prophecy for many of us. The paragraph as I'm sure you know concludes with the words, "Welcome back, although you never really left, did you?" I hope we can all break the cycle! I guess I just want to make a shout-out to all my friends at that Denny's (6666) from hell. You all know who you are. "

Dale, Indiana
- "There's a Denny's with a curiously low ceiling in Dale, Indiana (at exit 57 off of Interstate 64). It's next door to a gigantic maze and a few miles away from a theme park & water park. I don't know what more you couldpossibly want." - written prior to September, 1999

Evansville, Indiana
- June 2, 2000 - "I remember passing one of the greatest Denny's of all time on my way to Evansville with my mother to look at UofE. It was this giant shiney trailer that looked just like a 50's diner. I didn't get to go there. But upon reaching Evansville, I did convince my mother to let me go drive around and see if I could get my friend, Peter, on the phone. After finding a nail in my tire and buying a pack of cigarettes, I wound up finding a Denny's. Just my luck, huh? I had a book. I had cigarettes. I had a dollar and a half. I was all set. I went inside and sat there all by myself, smoking and reading, getting up to try calling Peter again every 15 minutes. I never got in touch, but I got to experience Denny's alone. That's something new."

Fort Wayne, Indiana
- "The Fort Wayne, Indiana Denny's (the one by the Mall) is pretty small and very crowded. There's not many young folks there, which some people like, but it lacked the atmosphere shared by the Indy Denny's. OK, but not great." - written prior to September, 1999

Gary, Indiana
- "There used to be a Denny's we'd pass driving from Elkhart to Chicago that we always swore we'd never frequent, because it looked like it was 2 notches less safe than a Denny's in Beirut. The last time I drove past, this Denny's was CLOSED! I've never seen a closed Denny's before in my life." - written prior to September, 1999

Indianapolis, Indiana
- "When my friends and I were in High School our favorite Denny's was "Hostage Crisis" Denny's on Pendleton Pike in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was so named becuase of a botched robbery which turned into a hostage crisis which occured there sometime during the spring of 1993, I believe. The usually friendly staff and the earthy ghetto crowd which patronized the establishment. My friends and I were there and the first anniversery of the crisis. The waitress didn't bring me any napkins, so I threatened (out loud) to take hostages if she didn't bring me one soon. Needless to say, she brought them in a hurry.
The other favorite Denny's of ours in Indianapolis is the Castleton Denny's on E. 82nd St. The service there is usually quite good and the waitresses quite flirty. One of them once tried to quit work and go to Bloomington with us one weekend. She was nice but pretty ugly so we slipped out quickly.
The Washington Square Denny's on E. Washington St. is pretty sub-par. A lot of young rednecks, and nasty waitresses. Not a very plesent experience.
The King of all Indianapolis Denny's has to be the Speedway Denny's. I'm not quite sure of the exact location, but its service is superb and the food quite delicious. A wonderful experience all around." - written prior to September, 1999

- January 10, 2002 - "I've been to several Denny's locations in the greater Indianapolis area. ÊThe two Greenwood(south side) Denny's' are both average. ÊNothing about them really sticks out in my mind. ÊBeing a 19 year old technical college dork with dorky friends, I like going to the Castleton(north side) Denny's where some of the middle aged rich snobs eat. ÊWe drive away their customers when we are there... or anywhere really. ÊMy favorite Denny's is the Washington Square(east side) location. ÊThe first time I was in that location was a few months ago. ÊMy brother's band, Rensoc, had just finished a concert. ÊWe all went out to eat at Denny's afterwards. ÊOur waitress, Debo, was extremely attractive, attentive, and congenial. ÊShe is the sole reason that a friend or two and I eat there late every Friday night now. ÊShe knows us by name and hasn't been scared off by our borderline retarded behavior, which is becoming more and more rare these days. ÊShe's like that white fender strat in Wayne's World, "She will be mine...yes, someday, she will be mine." Ê(I mean that in a good way, not like I will pay for her and play her like a guitar)."

Kokomo, Indiana
- " Last night my friends and I stopped at Denny's in Kokomo, Indiana. This is without a doubt the worst place to go to eat. In the first place, we waited ten minutes for our drinks and the waitress told us someone would be along to take our orders. Thirty minutes later this nice girl asked us if we had been waited on; we told her no so she proceeded to take our order. When the food did arrive, the eggs and bacon were burned beyond recognition. I do not blame the girl who waited on us finally, it wasn't her fault. The table we sat at was sticky and spilled items were hidden under the advertisements and salt and pepper. Needless to say, someone should check this one out." - written prior to September, 1999

Lafayette, Indiana
- " You just saw a really awesome show. It's after midnight, and you are in Indiana. Now what is there to do? The only place still open is Denny's, so you go there to eat. You're not surprised when you see all of your friends, and everybody from the show, already there. The waiters and waitresses take one look at you and sit you down with your friends. No one cares how much noise you make, how rude you are, or how much you smoke, because you're at Denny's." - written prior to September, 1999

- February 7, 2000 - "As a fan of 'Boycott Denny's', I want to tell you why I have chosen not to visit their stores ever again. It is not because I am a double minority (latin and gay) and their blatant discrimination. It is not because of their below-average food or cleanliness either. It is, however, because of the terrible service they give to their customers. In 1994 I went to have lunch at the Denny's in Lafayette, Indiana (the one close to I65) with my boyfriend. I ordered a sandwhich, fries, chocolate cake, and a coke, and my friend ordered something similar. When we got our orders everything was fine. I grabbed my sandwhich and was about to take a bite when I noticed something unusual, something very odd about my sandwhich. It seemed that the 'meat' part of the sandwhich was moving. I took a closer look and about threw up. On the side of my sandwhich there was a live worm, wriggling, and squirming happily like worms usually do. I started screaming "Un gusano vivo, un gusano vivo!" and my boyfriend, which had not seen the worm OR knew any spanish, thought the stress of finals week had gotten to me and I had gone mad. When the waitress came to see what was wrong she gasped as her eyeballs popped out of her eye sockets. Without saying much at all she took my plate and dissapeared. After a while she came back and simply asked if I needed/wanted anything. My obvious reply was 'no' and she left it at that. In the meantime I waited for the manager or supervisor to come out and apologize, but not even the cook came out. On top of that when I got to the register they charged me for the rest of my meal and my friend's lunch! I called headquesters to complain and, as expected, got a singular call from 'Risk Management' wanting to know what happened. After 20 or so attempts to reach the lady that called me, I gave up. Dissapointment and frustration over Denny's took over - and has lasted since. So, unlike you, my goal is to NEVER EVER eat at a Denny's again and to persuade as many people as I can from eating there again. I have suceeded in both so far."

Merrilleville, Indiana
- "I frequent the Denny's in Merrilleville Indiana, near Gary. (No, not the same one that was closed.) The rear smokeing section has a minor late nitght underground rock fan scene. Really. Used to be much cooler though, before the re-modeling. Non-smokers would actually come and sit in the smokeing section and "check out the freaks." Punks, rude boys, mods, slackers, goth kids, hippies, riot grrls, trendies, ravers, brit pop fans, we have it all. My name is Zervos. Other noteable figures at "the D" include "Rastro", "Backland", Karl, Ollie, the dirty punks, the H.G.P., and those smelly Rocky Horror Picture Show kids. I met a really sweet girl there named Beth when I was 16 and have been with her since. (I'm 18 now.) Come see the freaks. "One of us! One of us!..."" - written prior to September, 1999

- " To Whom it May Concern:
I think that you should know that your 'Dennys' in Merriville, Indiana is in dire need of new management. We stopped in for a snack the last Sunday in December and we were appalled as to the terrible coffee we were served. It was very old and coffee grounds were plentiful in our cup. I reckon that it was the worst cup of coffee that I have been served in any restaurant in my travels of over 50 years. The chocolate ice cream that we were served was very old and dried out. It was impossible to eat. I am very sorry to report this in that I have eaten in Dennys' Restaurants many times. I had eaten in this one in Merriville a number of times over the years and never experienced this bad food before.
I hope this message will be of value to you." - written prior to September, 1999

- "so, i'm looking around this vast expanse of cyber goodness and come across project denny's. having been a denny's rat for a good 5 years now, i have experienced most of my formative years within the walls of the Merrillville Denny's establishment...i read the entries from other people who have visited denny's and have been to the merrillville location (even though they spelled it wrong twice and called it gary once) i see they have caught the essence of that that is...Denny's my best friend chris even is posted there (zervos). yeah, so i thought i'd add my two bits... i remember the ill fated summer when denny's was closed for remodeling, and we all had to go to the golden bowl... i remember serving the entire back room coffee... i remember the hours on end playing the "band name game" and "what's behind the green glass doors"... i remember going there to see or be seen...where style was king...in the back room...where the "freaks were"... yeah...i always will have a place in my heart for good ol' denny's...i spent my entire high school experience there...and now that i'm in college, in bloomington IN, where the denny's scene sucks... i know that i was a part of something bigger than a group of late-night juvenile delinquents...i was part of a culture, that i have yet to find anywhere else... and although most of us have moved, there are still a group of die-hards that are still there every night...that i visit when i'm home from college...and this is a tribute to them. this one's for you mike backlund, sexy waiter/manager rob, juliana, fro, dark, and debbie... from all the rest of us who left the vacuum that is denny's to persue other things... i'll return soon with news of the outside world... and i will always love my merrillville denny's" - written prior to September, 1999

- December 4, 2001 - "My girlfriend and I were going to do some early morning christmas shopping yesterday, Monday December 3rd. We decided to try a Denny's restaurant in Merrillville Indiana near the Southlake Shopping Mall. Kelly was our waitress. She was very pleasant. She brought our coffee that she said was fresh decaffeinated coffee that we asked for. The coffee was very strong but we drank it anyway. Then came breakfast, my girlfriend had the Grand-Slam, 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon, and 2 sausages. The pancakes were the only items that was warm enough for her to eat. I had 2 scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and wheat toast. Nothing on my plate was warm. I don't mean that it wasn't hot, it wasn't even warm, it was room temperature. Kelly, the waitress asked if we wanted her to send our meals back but we were reluctant because of what we heard about restaurants do with food when itÊis sent back. When I went to pay the check the cashier asked if everything was okay, I told about our meals. She said she was sorry,.......that's all."

Portage, Indiana
- February 24, 2004 - "Well, I have been a Ã’regular at the Denny's located at the corner of US Route 6 & Christman Road in Portage, Indiana for a few years now. I've survived through a good number of waiters and waitresses. And yet, if you walk in there on an evening, you'll likely see me. New wait staff quickly gets to know me, and my order. Usually, bring a coffee & a water, and then check what I want. Ã’Boca Burger w/ seasoned? or Ã’Country Fried Potato's w/ White Gravy (no meat!) . Then it's a few hours of conversation, and a lot of coffee. I've had my share of bad and good experiences, my preferred wait staff, and my "When are they quitting?" wait staff. I'm still there every day. If your looking for interesting conversations, coffee, and somewhere to sit well into the night, Denny's will serve you well."

South Bend, Indiana
- "You're really missing out if you haven't been to the South Bend Indiana Dennys on a friday night. You see, South Bend is a conservative, catholic, republican town, and for some odd reason on friday nights, the Dennys on Roseland Street gets filled with all kinds of weird kids- all the punks, pot-heads (lots a pot-heads), fags, etc... just freaks in general. There's always a drug deal going down in the parking lot. Believe me, I know. Sex too- a friend of mine had sex with his girlfriend in a car in the lot, and it's a small lot, so if someone was looking out the window, they could have noticed..." - written prior to September, 1999

- "There's a Denny's near the Notre Dame campus I've been to more than a few times, I don't remember the street though. This was the first Denny's where I've seen an armed guard. It's also the only Denny's I know of that isn't open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During the week, they close at like 12 or 1. What spoilsports." - written prior to September, 1999

Speedway, Indiana
- November 1, 1999 - "My husband and I have long been Denny's afficianados, and even had a "Denny's Crusade" going in '97 at the Speedway, Indiana Denny's. We got to know everyone there, and went almost nightly, even though we lived in Castleton at the time and it was a 40 minute drive. (Yes, we we're nuts.) Often our waitresses would overlap shifts we were there so long and they were always worried about not getting their tip. They remodeled and spruced the place up a couple of years ago, and now it's just a little brighter, therefore not quite as cozy. I'm still holding a bit of a grudge for their hiking all of their food prices up every 6 months or so (are eggs reeeeely worth that much?!) and changing the menu just as frequently, but hey...if all of us are going to make a lifestyle out of loitering in Denny's, I guess we have to pay our dues. I don't recall a WAY working at Denny's, but there was this guy that always sat at the counter who resembled a homeless Weird Al and we swore he lived there!Ê(or was stuck to the seat.) He was there before and after we got there every time, barely spoke, and often seemed to attract the visiting police officer into a discussion about something. Our favorite Denny's worker, of course, was Steve!Ê(Who, unfortunately is not there anymore, to my knowledge.) A lively punk waiter with a different hair color every time we came in! He tried to give me a Denny's mug when we came in on my birthday, but we refused knowing that Steve was not an authorized mug-giver. Gosh, I miss the guy. There is a philosopher who has worked there forever too. I don't remember his name because we always avoid him, so as not to get into an unwanted discussion of what trees think about Mohammed's Hajj or something. (*groan*) We've never figured out if he's nuts, or really smart and no one can ascend to his level of thought patern. (I vote for choice "A.") So that's our Denny's. Full of Punks, students hiding behind Slams and Science books, and people chatting for hours over coffee (with waitresses that don't care, God bless them!). We don't get to go as much now, with 2 kids, but get there when we can. Hello to all you Speedway regulars!
P.S. Don't get the first 2 booths on the left when you walk in-they're always fffffrrrreeeeezing!"

Terre Haute, Indiana
- "I guess you've been to the Denny's I spent most of my high school weekends at in the boring little city of Terre Hell, Indiana. It was all the way accross town from where we lived, but we didn't mind driving the whole 15 minutes to get to the 3rd Street (aka US41) Denny's. It was at this great city landmark that my buddies and I first learned what a joy Green Coffee and a large booth can be--especially on weekends before major papers and exams. Nothing beats studying the Spanish revolution over icky fries, various slams, moons over my hammie, and strange milkshake blends, made specially for us by our regular waitress.
Funny thing about that Denny's though, that rather reflects on the nature of Terrible Hole, Indiana. The week before Christmas several years back, Denny's decided it would close for Christmas eve and day. The first time in this Denny's history that they would ever have closed. Problem was, they had no locks on the doors. So the news had a regular report all week on the status of the Denny's lock-installation project.
And yes, there most defintely was a WAY factor. Over five years, two of high school hangout, three of occasional weekend-home-from-college reunions, there was always one (but only one at a time) WAY look-alike, though the actual name changed about five times over the years...

- "Hey if you want to visit a Denny's that is as bad as they come go to the one in Terre Haute, In on U.S.41 just off Interstate 70. My Mom, Dad, Husband, and I went there last week and the meal was so small youÊ would think that if they fed you they might have to shut down for no profit. Get the biskets, and gravy you get one bisket, or how about Hash Browns , you get enough to fill a tablespoon,oh and the toast is great, youÊ get one small glob of butter in the middle of the toast, they sure could'nt spread it on the toast it might take to much butter, now thats one Denny's you dont want to go to!" - written prior to September, 1999

Valparaiso, Indiana
- "We tried Denny's 3 times. After the first time my wife said not to go back but I believe that anyone can have a bad day once, even a restaurant. We had dinner once and breakfast twice. This was a mistake all 3 times. What really made it bad the first time when we had dinner were the managers. It was a Sunday evening about 6 P.M. There were 4 of us, 2 couples. The place wasn't busy. As a matter of fact there were what looked like 4 managers having coffee in a booth toward the back of the restaurant. The waitress came to our table for the first time after 15 minutes. It took over 30 minutes to get our food after we placed the order. The food was not very warm and not very good, about the same as a Mickey' D's burger. After all this, when I went to pay the bill, the manager asked if everything was O.K.! Like he really cared, huh! Well I told him what I thought and he didn't say anything after that. So we tried the same restaurant 2 more times but my wife was right again. Damm I hate it when she's right, I bet Denny's does to. Well now when I go by Denny's, and I do almost every day I look over and only see three or four cars in the parking lot. There is a Bob Evan's right across the street and their always packed. There are also 2 other local chain restaurants about a 1/4 and 1/2 mile west, The Broadway Cafe always packed, Al's Diner, a restaurant that doesn't do a very good breakfast but lunch and dinner are good. In closing, I 've been in management for over 30 years and now own my own company. I'm a firm believer that you'll never improve if you don't know your short comings and boy does Denny's have their share." - written prior to September, 1999

- "This past week end myself and 4 other went into Indiana for a funeral. We were to go to Valpariso and not familiar with the motels in that area we were directed to Portage. There was Dennys in that area and because of advertising and recommendation we went there to eat on Fri evening. We spent around $50.00 for a meal. The worse part was that we had almost an hours wait. When it came the green beans appeared to be steamed and not cooked they were the next thing to raw. the Food was cold. the waitress did not do a good job. said she was sick why was she not at home. Said she would get us free dessert since our dinner was so late. did not see dessert at any point. We had to track her down to get our check. My son felt he would give them a second chance on Sat. morning. and the food and service was as bad then as on Fri. night. They observed people order and then leave because they were not served . I would never recommend another Dennys to anyone or will I eat there because of the treatment I got. Thank you for your time." - written prior to September, 1999

Vincennes, Indiana
- August 13, 2001 - "2728 N. 6th St, Vincennes, IN 47591 ... This location appeared to be a brand-spanking-new Denny's Diner (or "Denny's 2000" as the recepit for my meal stated). There was a spacious dining room, as most of the new Diners tend to have. Service was soul-crushingly slow (we waited something like an hour and a half for our food), but this was apparently due to a waitress getting sick and/or refusing to work her assigned tables. Either way, it was way slow. But they gave us 20% off our ticket to apologize, so I can't find too much fault here. No WAY as far as I could tell, though there was a rather hassled looking, kinda frizzy haired cook who kept poking his head into the dining area. Anyway, the food here was delicious & the people were pretty nice."
