- Don't trust the Internet.
- Adder found a site that had reviews for miniature golf courses in California. We used to love to play Adventure Golf in Centerville, Ohio, and were stoked with the prospect of recapturing that magic. The review of Karts 'N Golf in Fremont seemed promising, with four or five "flag" ratings on every aspect of the experience.
- No ill will meant towards the fine, friendly folks at Karts 'N' Golf, but their miniature golf courses were hardly what I'd consider shining examples from which to base future endeavors in the field. Maybe it's because people in Ohio have nothing better to do than design crazy, high-quality miniature golf courses. Maybe it's because we shouldn't believe reviews written and posted five years ago and not updated since. Our expectations were high, and they were not met. Again, hardly the fault of the folks running the establishment. The courses weren't bad per se, and they had some things I hadn't seen before (like penalty and bonus stroke cups). And they had go-karts, which automatically push it up a few notches.
- But even though the golfing sucked, we still had fun, because that's the sort of folks we are. Making it more fun was using this toy camera that Amie got that takes four quick successive shots and puts them on the same frame of film. This gives you, the reader, a much better sense of the sheer excitement that goes into a Project: Denny's adventure.
- For example, here's a high-energy photo of me taking a shot. Here's Adder getting a lay of the land. Of course, no golfing experience would be complete if someone didn't lose a ball in the underbrush. Luckily, the fine folks at Karts 'N Golf gave me another one, which I then proceeded to slice.
- After it was all over, Adder tallied the scores and submitted them to the judges. Tensions were high. Who would win? P7A77 or Adder? Perhaps this victory dance will shed light on the issue.
- Having soundly trounced Adder in golf, I directed my energy towards other family-friendly entertainment. I was fortunate enough to have the slowest moving bumper car, which meant I basically sat in the corner and tried to nudge myself into all the other people flying around smacking into things. Once that humiliation was over, I got my pit crew together for the go-karts. Only one other person was racing with me, and I passed him quite early on, so my race was a rather lonely experience.
- All this putting and bumping and racing can make a guy hungry. Time for Denny's. The employees at a nearby Chevron had absolutely no idea where one was, but there was an overly energetic customer named Marc who not only knew where one was, but tailored his instructions based on what highway we were taking and in what direction. Yay for Marc!
- The Denny's was nice enough. Adder seemed to enjoy his sandwich. The best part for me was buying three (count 'em) Sonic The Hedgehog dolls for ONE DOLLAR. I'll buy anything for a dollar.
